FAQs

  • What Should Students Wear To Class?

Students move a lot in our classes, so we recommend comfortable, flexible clothing that allows for full range of motion. If wearing a dress or skirt, please make sure shorts or leggings are worn underneath. Closed-toed shoes are required for safety. Please avoid sandals, flip-flops, crocs, open-toed, or platform shoes, as they are not safe or practical for our activities. For dance and aerial classes, we suggest dance or yoga pants, jazz shoes, and either a leotard or a form-fitted t-shirt.

  • What Is My Child Required To Bring To Class?

Most classes simply require students to arrive prepared, focused, and dressed appropriately for movement. However, certain programs—especially those involving scene work, music, or script study—may require a few basic supplies. These may include a pencil, highlighter, binder, or notebook to help students stay organized and engaged. Some classes may also require light printing of materials such as lyric sheets, scripts, or worksheets. Teaching artists will communicate any required items in advance. We also recommend bringing a labeled water bottle and keeping personal belongings to a minimum to help maintain a clean and organized studio environment.

  • Does My Child Need Previous Experience To Attend Classes?

No prior experience is required! Most of our classes are age-appropriate and open to all skill levels. Our boutique class sizes ensure that every student receives individual attention and is appropriately challenged. We believe that students grow best when learning alongside their peers, and our teaching artists thoughtfully tailor instruction to meet each child where they are—supporting confidence, skill development, and progress at every level.

  • Are People Allowed To Watch A Class?

No. For the safety, focus, and comfort of our students, we do not allow visitors in the studio during class time—including parents, siblings, and extended family. We warmly welcome families and friends to join us for performances and final showcases to celebrate students’ progress.

  • Can I Register My Child Outside Their Grade Level?

Students must register for classes based on their current age or grade level. Each class is intentionally designed around age-appropriate curriculum, pacing, and social development. In special cases, slightly younger students may be considered for advanced placement. These decisions are made on an individual basis by TAP’s Owner/Artistic Director to ensure the student is ready both artistically and socially for the older group.

  • Will There Be "Homework" Assigned?

Theater is a collaborative and systematic art form, and students are most successful when they arrive prepared. Practicing at home ensures that class time can be spent on coaching, character work, and skill-building—not simply reviewing lyrics, lines, or choreography they’ve already learned. We encourage families to help their children set aside a small, consistent weekly practice time in a supportive, low-pressure environment. Celebrate progress, offer gentle reminders, and create space where your child feels comfortable rehearsing. Select classes will also receive access to Google Classrooms with helpful practice tools such as music tracks, choreography videos, lyric sheets, and other resources. Regularly reviewing these materials at home helps students feel confident, prepared, and ready to dive deeper in class.

  • Are There Make-Up Classes?

Yes. If a student needs to miss a class, they may make it up by attending another age-appropriate class with a similar structure. Please note that each of our classes has its own ensemble, curriculum, and lesson plan, which can make makeup classes a bit challenging—but not impossible. All makeup classes must be completed within the same school year.

  • Is There A Sibling Discount?

Yes. Select classes offer a 10% sibling discount. Please refer to individual class listings or contact us for details on which programs are eligible.

  • Does TAP Offer Payment Plans?

Yes. Select classes offer payment plans, typically available in 2- or 4-installment options. All installment plans are scheduled and processed automatically using the credit card on file. Please check individual class listings for availability.

  • What Are TAP's Refund and Withdrawal Policies?

All monies received are final and nonrefundable. Because our programs operate with limited enrollment and rely on committed participation, TAP does not offer refunds or credits once funds are received. Withdrawal from a program requires 30 days’ written notice prior to the next automatic installment date. With proper notice, future scheduled installment payments will be canceled. These policies allow us to maintain boutique class sizes, plan staffing responsibly, and continue providing the high-quality programming our community expects.

  • Is There An Attendance Policy?

Yes. Select classes—particularly our production programs—require mandatory attendance during the week before tech and throughout tech week itself. This policy ensures student safety and allows our team to integrate technical elements smoothly and efficiently into the production process. All scheduled performances are also mandatory. Please note that consistent attendance is essential; if a student repeatedly misses rehearsals, TAP reserves the right to adjust or recast their role to protect the integrity and safety of the production.

  • What Is TAP's Behavior and Bullying Policy?

TAP is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and uplifting environment where every student feels respected and supported. We expect all students to demonstrate kindness, cooperation, focus, and professionalism in class, rehearsals, and performances. Bullying, harassment, intimidation, or any undisciplined or disruptive behavior that interferes with learning or makes another student feel unsafe—whether verbal or physical—will not be tolerated. When behavior concerns arise, TAP follows a clear, supportive process:

Coaches will first attempt to redirect the student in class.

If the behavior continues, a parent/coach conference will be scheduled to discuss concerns and strategies for improvement.

If disruptions persist, the student may be dismissed from the program. No refunds will be issued in these cases.

Our goal is to maintain a positive, collaborative space where all students can grow artistically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Are Students Allowed To Use Phones And Electronic Devices In Class?

Devices are not allowed in the classroom unless a coach specifically permits them for a class-related activity. All phones and electronic devices must remain silenced and stored in the cubbies for the duration of class. If device use becomes a distraction, coaches may hold the device until dismissal. Repeated issues may require a parent conversation. In the event of an emergency, parents should contact the studio directly, and we will immediately notify your child. This policy helps ensure all students remain present, focused, and fully engaged in the creative process.
